Street Food Parilla - the Salsas

Street Food Parilla - the Salsas

This is from one of the vendors on Costanera Sur, near the entrance to the Ecological Reserve. Picture shows the standard Chimichurri, the excellent spicy Aji Picante, the tangy Provenzal, and the local Salsa Criolla. To the extreme left are grilled onions, and to the extreme right are fried potato strips that are meant as pancho hot-dog sandwich toppings.

Candileja and Empanada

Candileja and Empanada

Fantastic, richly filled pasties. Candilejas are the round ones, and the empanada to the right. The cafeteria Gourmet sells these.

Tartas

Tartas

Very filling tartas, vegetable/meat pies. Sandwicherias or Confiterias are the best places to get these types of food.

Pan rellenos calientes

Pan rellenos calientes

Found these only at the weekend Recoleta Feria. Vendors selling this hot filled-breads store these in a large insulated container that they carry around. Did not find this anywhere else in Buenos Aires, and after eating small, dry, tiny empanadas, the large pan rellenos calientes was a great find, very filling, and very tasty. The special had generous amount of ham, cheese, tomatoes.

Demashk - Shawarma

Demashk - Shawarma

Demashk is a small joint at Charcas 3816 corner of Scalabrini Ortiz, and near the Subte station. They serve shawarma sandwiches, and side dishes. Very inexpensive, AR$6 each for these dishes. Strange service though - he insisted he could not give me pita for the hummus (puré de garbanzos) or metabal (puré de berenjenas) or baba ganush (berenjenas, tomate, pasta de granada, perejil), even though they had a stack of pita breads that were used to make the shawarma sandwiches! Still, worth a visit for a change in pace from usual standard fare in Buenos Aires.

El Establo - bife de chorizo

El Establo - bife de chorizo

El Establo at Paraguay 489. Half-portion of the bife de chorizo. Great sauce, nice tangy taste, was not the usual dry-tasting chimichurri seen in most places.
