L'Gros Luxe Grilled Sandwich with Poutine

L'Gros Luxe Grilled Sandwich with Poutine

Grilled cheese sandwich. With poutine inside. Crispy bread, crispy fries, cheese... Another fantastic Montreal creation. L'Gros Luxe in the Plateau.
L'GROS LUXE 3807 Rue Saint-André, Montréal, Canada.
Very nice cafe/bar too, with great drinks.

Romados Poutine

Romados Poutine

Rotisserie Romados at 115 Rue Rachel Est in Montreal is famous for their grilled chicken.
Sure, chicken is fine, but the poutine is better! It comes in a huge portion and it is a big meal in itself. In addition to the standard poutine sauce they also add their signature spicy sauce. The dish also includes a quarter-chicken (cut-up and boneless). Price: CA$9 (2013).
This is mostly a takeout place though they do have a few seats that are filled most of the time.

Rotisserie Romados Phone: +1 514-849-1803. Open usually between 7 am to 9 pm.

Le Club Sandwich - Closed

Le Club Sandwich - Closed

2015 December. Closed. This restaurant, and other bars and entertainment joints in the building, all boarded up and closed. The news about that whole Bourbon Complex Building is that it likely was a result of illegal construction and in the end was put up for sale to satisfy creditors.

Le Club Sandwich open 24/7. Huge place, cool old fashioned decor.
Near metro Papineau in Montreal at 1570 Ste Catherine St.
Way off the tourist track, but useful to know for late night poutine.
Excellent poutine. Very hearty, thick fries, and they really put on the gravy, which makes it even better.

La Cantine - Poutine - Closed

La Cantine - Poutine - Closed

Unfortunately, this place closed in 2012.

La Cantine - Bistro Boutique - 212 Mont-Royal Est +1.514.750.9800.
Even at the last bite , the fries stayed crispy.
Small "jar" is for $7.50, with an extra $10 for foie gras (shown in the picture). For me, the foie gras was a bit too much, does not add anything to already excellent poutine. They use sichuan pepper, which adds a nice zing.

La Belle Province - Multiple

La Belle Province - Multiple

La Belle Province at multiple locations. Not all are that good, though.
Very good poutine at 1 Rue Ste-catherine E (corner St Laurent).
Also: 1216 rue Peel (between boul. René-Lévesque O. & rue Ste-Catherine O., next to the Tourist Info office).

This is pretty good poutine, the fries maintain their crispiness at the start and unless totally smothered by the sauce. The cheese is not as fresh (tastes good, but no "squeak") as in the better places. Right amount of sauce, and a good amount of cheese. So, not bad at all - for a fast-food joint, this is pretty good. Have never eaten anything else here, but have heard good things about the hot-dogs.

La Belle Province looks like a franchise, but certainly does not seem up to the McDonalds standards - it seems some restaurants use the name and logo but may not be following the exact same procedures. For example, the La Belle Province at 3001 Notre-Dame near Atwater Market is a sit-down type of restaurant and the poutine there was not as good - fries were too mushy.

So, even though this is a standard greasy spot, some locations have pretty good poutine. Certainly the two listed on top of this post are pretty good.

Bolduc Poutine Poivre

Bolduc Poutine Poivre

The Maamm Bolduc poutine, with sauce au poivre. Good - but could be better - needs far more sauce as well as cheese.

Patati Patata Poutine

Patati Patata Poutine

Poutine is quite good, thin fries, and small enough portion to not fill you up. Get the small hamburger, if needed. The poutine is $4, and as is the burger with cheese, etc.

Poutine Lafleur

Poutine Lafleur

Poutine Lafleur +1-514-761-0711
3665 Rue Wellington, Verdun, QC

There is a chain by the same name, but this one is the only Poutine Lafleur, known for its excellent poutine.

The fries are thick, and it is definitely one of the best poutines.

The place is open only during normal hours, and it is certainly more like a low-end fast-food joint in looks, but you go here for the poutine and not for the decor.

The picture shows a large poutine, enough for a whole meal. Just $5.

La Banquise

La Banquise

Poutine with every topping you can imagine, and open 24 hours a day. Details at Montreal Restaurants List

Patati Patata

Patati Patata

Small place, come here on a cold wintry night, order borscht, poutine or burgers or breakfast, look out on two streets from the window.

Place is extremely crowded - has only 15 seats, and is very popular with students. Hard to get in from 7PM to closing (usually 10PM). Best option is try it after normal lunch hours and before dinner hours.
In the summer, a great option is takeout, and then sit on the benches in the small park across the street.
