Well - now that Chutney Popcorn is officially on the air - we thought it would be a good idea to open up the blog as a guest book again. Sorry to the extended absence… we’re back and are here to answer questions, read your comments… or just delete spam.
If you have anything you’d like to know - here’s the place to ask!

Hey Nisha! Your work is amazing. I am a playwright, originally from NYC, now in California. What are you working on these days?

Hey Victoria - Thanks for your message. I’m back to writing my own independent films again… after doing some weird work in Hollywood - I’m pretty excited to get back to it. Hopefully we’ll have another movie out at the end of the year or early next year - i’ll keep it posted here.
Let me know if you have any of your plays up - would love to check it out.
Thanks again!

Hi!
I’m part of the Sethi family, and this past weekend (at a family wedding) heard about you and your accomplishments. I put two and two together and realized I missed meeting you at the Diamond Bar reception!
I was hoping to get in contact with you and sent an email to your ‘MataFilms@aol.com’ account, but I’m not sure if it’s still valid.
Currently, I work at DreamWorks Animation but my long term goal is to be a writer. If you wouldn’t mind, I would love to pick your brain for a couple of minutes; it’s very inspiring to see an Indian female writer and director be successful, in the Indie world, as well as Hollywood.
Hope to talk soon,
Saj

So you have any recommendations? I’m in Australia so there’s limited options for accessing such joys.
thanks for making the film.

Hi Nisha,
I recently had the pleasure of watching your film Chutney Popcorn. I have to say you appeared to handle your multi roles quite well. Thought the love making scene was exquisitly done not too fleshy would have like to have seen more interaction with the two between the conception and birth. None the less was truly a fine work of art in several aspects. I would like to know is Jill as funny in real life as she appears to be in the film? I felt your character did have chemistry.

hi indira - I missed your comment - I was traveling and just got home from Albania and Croatia. I’ll keep a look out for other desi lesbian films - but a great place to check is Wolfe Video - search their site and I’m sure you’ll find something you’d love to see.
thanks for watching and writing!

Hi pam -
Thanks so much for your message. It’s always hard to strike the right tone with a love scene… I thought that since the tone of the film was more conventional in terms of romantic comedy structure - that the love scene be short - most romantic comedies cut to the morning after and show nothing more than a kiss. It’s funny though because when a movie has lesbian content - it’s almost like a lot of audience members expect the movie to have a porn like scene in it - and while I think those scenes definitely have value in movies that call for it - it always strikes me as strange when we’re going along in a comedy and then it turns all red shoe diaries for a moment to have everyone have sex - -
Anyway - on to your question about Jill. YES! Jill is hilarious in real life. She’s got a great sense of humor and a great laugh - she’s very sweet and was always joking around right before a take - she kept the mood on set happy and lovely. I can’t wait to work with her again.
I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.
thanks!

Also, I somehow never got a copy of the film but would love to have one. What’s the best place to buy a copy?
Hope all is well for you!

Hi Nisha,
I know your last blog post was in 2008 but I hope this will still get to you. I saw your film Junky Punky Girlz a few years ago and loved it, but I can’t watch it anymore because of spike TVs geoblocking. Do you think you’d be able to host the film on another website where international audiences will be able to watch it? I’m located in Australia.
