I rescently started staying home after owning our own busiess for 3 1/2 years and I am able to watch my 2 year old grow I have 3 healthy great boys and am interested in knowing what it involves to give this gift to a family who cant concieve by no fault of their own.

Hi, I have seen there are alot of questions about surrogate motherhood, remember Nisha's movie-"Chutney Popcorn" was only a really good story, created by Nisha and Susan Carnival, I just thought I would bring that back because I remember an entry from a while ago about this very same subject and just wanted to say that this is not the right way to go about getting information about adoption, or surrogate mother/fatherhood. I am creator of Nisha's Yahoo Fan Club, I would be more than happy to help with that research to help people get there, if they would like. I hope I did not offend anyone. But peace be with everyone and hope everyone gets what they want with their lives, just remember to treat the children with the utmost love and admiration, creations of life. To be cherished.

Have to add this thought to my last note, just in case the actors might be interested...Very powerful performance by Sakina..I thought Jill was AMAZING. I am so used to seeing her in these tough characters that I was mesmerized by her vulnerability...she conveyed such clear thoughts and feelings in her facial expressions! Please Jill, do more comedy AND something where we can hear you sing (commentary has my interest piqued)!

i found chutney popcorn because it was misplaced next to the movie i was looking for and, loving jill hennessy, i bought it on a whim. as after-school-specially as it may sound, this movie really did change my life. lately, i have been dealing with alot of personal deamons and somehow after seeing this movie i decided that no matter what i choose and how the people around me react, as long as i have that one special person it will all be ok. although i am a huge jill hennessy fan, the character that i felt the most for was reena. i dont want to waste anymore of your time with my ramblings, i just wanted to say thank you, and i appreciate what you did more than you will ever know.

i just purchased the dvd and loved the movie. i got it because of the actress Cara Buono i think that she is great. And jill hennessey did a nice job in the movie also, but i don't see her as being lesbian. thanks again the story was developed and the characters were great.

I love this film. I bought the video tape version when it first was released, and wore it out. Now I have the DVD, so I feel a little more secure. My two favorite things in the world are Indian culture and lesbian culture, who knew they could both be in the same film????
I cry at least twice every time I watch Chutney Popcorn, and laugh more times than I can count. Thanks to Sakina, and Jill, and Madhur, and most especially Nisha, for making such a beautiful film.

Nisha - I finished watching C.P. last night and really enjoyed it. I really liked the whole aesthetic of the film including the soundtrack/score by Karsh Kale. I just bought a really cool CD by Tabla Beat Science which included Kale as a guest performer. I highly recommend the "Devotional Dub" track on Disc 2 if you have a chance to come across this - it's hypnotic.I would send an MP3 or whatever but I am an idiot and havn't got a clue about how to do that!
I was trying to find a GOOD bio on you in all the film sites but really couldn't find one. I think your growing fan community would appreciate the definitive Nisha Ganatra bio on your own weblog including a brief story of getting C.P. made - perhaps in journal form ala Christine Vachon's "Shooting to Kill" I am also very curious to know who you originally had signed for the role of Reena that you ended up playing so convincingly and with such subtlety. Thanks and I look forward to Cosmopolitan and much more.

Chutney Popcorn is one of my favorite movies. I rented it I don't know how many times until I finally tracked it down to buy it. I just wanted to let you know that I TOTALLY enjoyed "Chutney Popcorn!!!" I got the opprotunity to view it on the Sundance Channel a couple months ago. I thought you were terrific in it and the storyline was awesome!!! It is a wonderful example to show people that yes...lesbian/gay couples can have children too whether if it's seragant or within the couple!!! There needs to be more films out there like that. I loved the film, I watched all the extra stuff on the cd, and learned so much more about the film. I think it was a moving portrail of love, life, and family in all it's forms. As a lesbian i grow tiered of seeing films that are suposed to be lesbian films were in the end they end up finding the right man and going strait. This film made me laugh, and cry and in the end left me with a beautiful warm feeling. The cherecters of Reena, and Lisa made such a beautiful loving couple,a nd the hearteach that they all went through to get to were they were in the end of the film was so beleivable.

I just got the chance to watch Chutney Popcorn on Sundance and I must say it wasvery interesting. It is so rare to see a a movie with a dramatic story line mixed with comedy-acted out so well. The cast and crew should be proud of themselves for doing a remarkable job. Even though I'm not a lesbian, I have great repect for the gay commuity for being who they are and to be proud of it.
I must compliment Jill Hennessy on her remarkable performace. Lisa is noticably different from Clair Kinkaid and Jordan Cavanaugh. Jill can make any character her own.
Nisha Ganatra, you are extremly creative and talented. I loved the movie and would watch it again any day.

i just wanted to say , that i seen "chutney popcorn" and thought it ws a great film. i liked the way it was put together the art of te whole film just everything . i just think it was beautiful . thank you for a great expiriance. id like to get a soundtrack for it .anyways im nobody so , later .i must return to my closet..

Nisha - Your film is amazing -- I could watch it over and over (and I have). I just watched it with the commentary that you did with Jill Hennessy and Sakina Jaffrey -- it was hilarious, and it helped me watch the film in a totally different light. I would definitely recommend it! Thanks for making a movie with a story everyone can relate to.

I happened upon Chutney Popcorn at the video store and rented it. I am not sure why b/c I didn't read the cover. But, I loved it. And, I have recommended it to all of my friends. It especially touched me because I have been the pregnant lesbian. And, it was not easy. But, it was the best thing that I have ever done. I would love to see a sequel with the alternative family theme. I usually hate sequels. But, if anyone could do it, you can. Great cast and great movie.

hello - I saw the movie for the first time last night on the sundance channel. It was beautiful. I loved the mother's role most especially. I am from an Italian American family and her value of tradition and how she tried her best to carry out through the changing times reminded me so much of my mother. Great movie!!!!

Just saw the DVD version of Chutney Popcorn. Its a warm, deeply moving feature.
Loved the mother-daughter, sister-sister relationships. (Didn't realize how similar Jewish and Indian mothers are! But then, so are Jewish and Latino mothers - Lopez was priceless! And Jaffrey was amazing.)The food vendor was a great idea - he worked out well - nice touch.
I'm impressed by the movie's freshness, and your honesty as an actor - you are totally believable, refreshingly understated, incredible eyes.
And the other main characters: all believable, and identifiable. Kudos to Jill Hennessey: great to see her able to go beyond the tv series constraints. Your film really showcased her talent in a way I hadn't seen before. I hope she gets to do more work like this. Definitely want to see more of your work.
I loved the running commentary on the DVD. Greatly enriched my movie experience afterwards. Listening to you(s)talk reminded me of some of my best times in my theater experience (my undergrad. degree's in theater). We've got some good theater here on Martha's Vineyard. I just loved doing ensemble acting with a group of women in our productions of "Steel Magnolias" and "Nunsense." The spirit on stage and in rehearsal was powerful, funny, warm, supportive, unforgettable. Many of the women I've worked with are like family now. From your commentary, I got a glimpse of how rich it was for you to work together.
I'm a new fan of yours, enjoy and keep on creating!

dearest nisha, i signed your guestbook a while back. i just wanted to tell you that you shouldn't be hidding behind the cameras all the time. beauty like yours shouldn't stay hidden. the only reason why i stopped flipping channels to watch your movie was because you caught my eye. and when i found out that the beautiful girl in the movie also produced and directed it i was impressed. what i'm trying to say is, although i think you are a great director, you are also a great actress and a beautiful person to watch. just promise you won't hide behind the cameras too often. ok

I've read post upon post here about how much people love your movie and then they put up things like "Can I be in one?" and they ask for things. I'm not one of those people. I'm just posting to say "Thank You". And I'm saying it for many different reasons. Of course a thank you is in order for the breathtaking film you've made that has touched so many lives. And of course thank you for giving all of a us a voice in one way or another. And thank you, of course, for just being so unbelievable in an astonishing way.
But my thank you is not solely based on those points. My thank you is more personal and more heartfelt. My thank you is a thank you that comes from the deepest part of my heart and soul. My thank you is because you and Chutney brought my girlfriend and I together.
You (and my love for Jill & L&O) inspired me to write a few Law & Order fanfiction based on a storyline no one had ever done (see URL), Jen then emailed me based on those stories, and we've been together ever since. And it all comes back to you and this magnificent movie. So thank you for inspiring our minds and our hearts... And thank you Jill for being just one crazy cool chic that everyone can relate to and for choosing parts that inspire and touch as well.
If it wasn't for Nisha, Jill, and Chutney, I may have never met the most amazing woman in the world. Thank you...

I just want to tell you how fabulous Chutney Popcorn is. I often wath movies because I have favorite actresses in them and when I found out Jill was in the movie I just had to get it. I am a college student studying acting and I have a real passion for directing, granted I have been trained in theatre I aspire so much to be a movie director. I just couldn't get over everything. The angles, the cuts, the story line, the acting, everything was just amazing I just bought it today and I have watched it 5 times. I have seen your work and aspire to be as talented as you. Please let me know of anything you do in the future. And thank you for sending out such a powerful positive message to young lesbian women with this movie.
